Egypt Travel Series Part 1: Preparing for My First Solo Trip to the Middle East

Traveling solo to Egypt for the first time was both exciting and a little nerve-racking. Since it was my first experience visiting the Middle East, I wanted to make sure I was well prepared, especially when it came to packing the right clothes and essentials. Egypt’s weather can be quite hot and dry, and the streets can be dusty, so I focused on comfort and practicality. I packed my most comfortable sneakers for walking since the roads can be uneven, and brought along a hat to protect myself from the sun. Cotton clothing became my best friend during packing because it is light, breathable, and ideal for hot climates. I chose loose pants and long-sleeved tops, which not only kept me cool but also felt appropriate and respectful for the local culture.

For my hand carry luggage, I tried to keep everything light and simple since I was flying with Emirates for more than twelve hours, including layovers. I packed some snacks, a spare top, and a pair of underwear just in case. I also brought wet tissues, a small travel-size lotion under 50 milliliters, my phone, and a charger cable since there were charging ports available onboard. My Nintendo Switch was in my bag as well, although I barely used it because I ended up sleeping through most of the flight. A neck pillow turned out to be a lifesaver, and my denim jacket came in handy, not only for warmth but also for storing important travel documents like my passport and ticket in the inner pocket for easy access.

For the flight outfit, I went with long sleeves, loose pants, and compression socks to stay comfortable throughout the journey. I decided to skip bringing a power bank to avoid any possible issues at airport security. Overall, I learned that when you are traveling solo, especially on a long journey to a destination like Egypt, comfort should always come first. Dress in clothes that let you move freely, pack smart, and stay relaxed. Taking these small steps made my first solo adventure to Egypt so much easier and more enjoyable, setting a positive tone for the rest of my trip.
